Abstract

This article demonstrates how design teaching in France can be qualified as a middle ground with an analysis of the French history of design schools, courses and public policies. It unveils the mediation situations, compromises and cultural entanglements whose are taking place in order to form a negotiated territory.

Léa Fauquembergue, CNAM

Associate professor of applied arts and doctoral student at CNAM, in the Dicen-IdF laboratory. Her thesis examines the teaching of design from the point of view of information and communication sciences, with a particular focus on the discipline's curricular texts.
